Je sais bien qu'on ne vit pas d'amour et d'eau fraîche, mais la négation du trésor inestimable que constitue cette liturgie selon St Germain de Paris est tellement plus dramatique que les trous dans le porte monnaie ! Plus cette liturgie sera connue , plus nous sortirons de l'exil que nous connaissons en tant que chrétiens orthodoxes d'occident. Depuis 1993 je suis "sur le bord des fleuves de Babylone, là nous pleurions en nous souvenant...". du temps où nous célébrions la liturgie d'Occident dans la communion avec nos frères d'Orient. seronymus 🤔.:: True, but given how the average Early medieval Greek looking down his nose at the Gauls and Celts as a whole, it made it too tempting to disregard the Opinions of the Eastern Church along with that secular bigotry at the time. That made someone like Charlemagne coming along to change the balance inevitable, the people demanded it, but his relationship with the pope eroded regional flavors of Liturgy, as unity under saint Gregory the Great’s liturgy was increasingly seen as the need to not only have a common creed, which all Orthodox Catholicism had, but also a common Rite in the West, an attitude that eroded the value of autocephaly, an attitude that slowly but increasingly made the Western Patriarchate Anti-confederate in their interpretation of what “The ROCK” actually MEANS. Such mistakes as these led to the notion of Papal Supremacy. It wasn’t all the West’s fault that such mistakes were made. Generally Successful Christian countries must never fall into the temptation of putting Truth before Mercy regarding those they might consider “backwards”; as Chesterton rightly says, Truth and Mercy MUST be emphasized by the Universal Church in EQUAL measure.

Orthodox in what sense? The West is Indebted to Catholicism, The early Gauls would consider themselves Roman Christians, Same with the Anglo Saxons, the germans etc.. Eastern liturgy, customs and theology would be alien to western christendom..the orthodox have a tendency to consider all pre schism saints "orthodox" which is a ridiculous notion, its called Western Christendom for a reason, Its separate from eastern christendom ..many of these western liturgies survived until the council of trent when Rome decided to rein in the liturgical movements, which the east has also done many times .. but honestly these cultures are part of western christendom , the western rite churches are a very weak attempt at evangelization.. but Western Culture was and is a catholic culture im sorry to tell you , the theology, monasticism, liturgy would have fallen in line with the greater western christian culture and would appear alien to the east.. Just look at your church, the divine liturgy, the aesthetics ..they are very alien to the west, Now go to a tridentine mass, or an old Catholic Church and look at the aesthetics The West was and always will be Catholic

steven tipton The controversy isn’t “West Versus East”, per se, it never really was, beyond the petty, fleeting secular political aspects. It ALL comes down to what the actual jurisdictional powers of the pope really are. I’ve been Roman Catholic, born and raised, but I’ve had to face some hard truths, but none more important then this: IF the Pope really IS theoretically the supreme pontiff of ALL that is Catholic and Orthodox, East and West, even if that was always theoretically possible, this special authority could never ITSELF be legally authoritative until a VALID ecumenical council representing all five Patriarchies could unanimously agree to it. From then on, the Pope would have supreme authority, but how could it be so before then? And how have the recent Popes’ capitulation to modernist pressures to functionally renounce their status as a monarch not hurt the matter? The Vacate Sevadist position also seems absurd to me. The seat has been vacant for 60 years, yet God prevented error from being taught all the time before? “Papal infallibility”, a rather stupidly oversimplified term, is theoretically at least two things: God will make a special exception to never interfering with free will whenever a Pope is tempted to teach error, and directly influence him to do otherwise, and it is an EXCEPTIONALLY special and rare ability allowing an authoritative, EXCLUSIVELY negative veto power to counter any increasingly popular heresy spreading so fast that there is no time to gather a council to counter it properly. Yet, any such notions as, say, “priestesses”, were successfully stamped out of the Orthodox without any of the other four Patriarchs having such special powers. I look at the evidence presented and on a more careful examination a real case can be made that God has influenced several popes to be LESS fallible, but the more I think about it , HOW can that evidence by ITSELF prove special powers unless a PROPER ecumenical council unanimously agreed to it? It’s such a Old Western conceit to make such a claim. We need a new more Humble Western Rite. One that is both older and paradoxically YOUNGER then the one currently making so many errors. We have to admit that, while most of the ideas of the Scholastics do deserve a PROPER day in an actual Authoritative court, and always did, it hasn’t actually happened yet. Except for the role Islam has played (such as the ottoman puppet bishops), it doesn’t even matter WHY. We need a fresh start and that means admitting our theories about jurisdiction, at the VERY LEAST have been wrong. We can then use modern technology to go through all the old controversies relatively quickly (as in, it won’t take us 200 years) up through Trent one by one to plan for a LEGITIMATE 8th council in the future. But “Vatican 1&2”? I just don’t see almost any legitimate ideas to discuss in those anymore, apart from A new theory of “LOW Fallibility”. I think that might have a chance of being dogmatically recognizable in a future legitimate council.

@@xskramx8078 this liturgy is western. The Church in the Gauls was influenced by the Eastern missionaries. You clearly have zero knowledge of Liturgics, nor church history. This rite was surpressed by Clovis and Charlemagne. I am Orthodox and personally use the Tridentine Rite, but I am not ignorant of this liturgical tradition. The West and East were one. Romanism is a group of hereises from Greek hellinism, imposed on the Western people by the Roman Pope.

Problem is that while greek liturgy is still contain doctrine of orthodoxy, Latin Mass through its history absorb many Roman Catholics' mistakes

There was no surviving source of Gallican chant. Instead of adopting another western chant system wholesale Maxime Kovalevski composed modern music of rather Russian style for their Liturgy and Office but he incorporated some western themes when it appeared expedient.

Edmund Burke effectivement il y a une influence russe dans les chants de cette eglise car sa fondation a ete l'oeuvre d'emigres russes (Eugraph Kowalevsky devenu Monseigneur Jean de St Denys et sacre eveque justement par St Jean de Shangai et de St Francisco, et son frere Maxime) dans la 1ere moitie du XXeme siecle, il y a eu tout un immense travail d'archeologie chretienne pour restaurer le rite primitif des 1ers siecles chretiens en Gaule. Il y a beaucoup de choses occidentales specifiques et Maxime Kowalevsky a tres evidemment apporte sa culture russe dans la mise en forme. Mais franchement ce n'est pas "trop" russe, Mais ca en a la richesse !

Which canonical Orthodox Church ? they are so numerous.... what i can tell you is that they have two new bishops more, now, one has been sent by "le synode russe hors frontière", this one that was lead in the fifties/sexties, by John of Shangaï and San Francisco, whom is like a father for orthodox church of France...it's very recent, and a great thing for this orthodox church of France, that was as "orphan" since several years....

One of these days. The pastor of our mission has talked about doing it, but I don't know what his time line is; he calls the shots on that one.

It is definitely a beautiful liturgy, a nice bridge between the Byzantine & Slavic traditions. I love to celebrate it, although I was formed in the Byzantine monophonic sphere of music with the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom & Basil.

It is a Gallican Liturgy - It is an attempted restoration of the Liturgy that was used in France during the time of Saint Germanus, using the rubrics he set forth. It was approved by Saint John the Wonderworker and is used by some Western Churches, although mostly by the Orthodox Church in France, said church which is in schism from the canonical Orthodox Church.

You can find it online. It is a reputable reconstruction of the ancient Gallican Liturgy described by St Germain with some descreet additions, mainly to the festal office, from eastern rites. .

St. Germain des Pres is a Catholic church in Paris using the Roman Rite.

@@mattb9914 they just are not recognized by others due to political reasons. "Canonical" isn't really a distinction. They hold the exact same faith that Russia and Greece do, they just are not allowed access by them.
